France's capital and most populated city, Paris is an alluring destination and an essential stop for any global traveler. A center of fashion, gastronomy, arts and finance, Paris is also a major transportation hub, and will host the 2024 Olympics.

Marquee annual events in this world-renowned city include Bastille Day (July 14 each year, including flyovers, a military parade and fireworks) and Paris-Plages (mid-July to mid-August), where a temporary beach — complete with sand, chairs and palm trees — is created on the Right bank of the Seine River.

Basilica of Sacre-Coeur

Sacre Coeur

More than 10 million people reach the summit of Montmartre every year to visit Sacre Coeur and take in the 360-degree views of Paris from its unique vantage point. Finished in 1914, this church is built of travertine which keeps it pristine and white through weathering. Seven architects were needed in order to complete the building.

Notre Dame

Ahh, The Notre Dame Cathedral. Completed in 1345 this stunning piece of Gothic architecture stands in the middle of Paris welcoming more than 13 million visitors per year.

Lac Daumesnil

For a tranquil, almost pastoral, refuge from the hustle and bustle of exploring the City of Lights, try Lac Daumesnil. This is just the place for a romantic stroll along a lakeside promenade, surrounded by graceful older trees and foliage. Take a row boat out onto the water to commune with the swans and ducks.

Eiffel Tower

Paris' iconic tower, standing 324 meters high and named after the engineer who designed it. It is impossible to visit Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower. Towering over historic Paris it draws more than 6 million visitors per year. It is easy to see why the Eiffel Tower is the is the most-visited paid monument in the world.
